Telekom Austria Appoints Alejandro Plater as CEO

Telekom Austria announces that its Supervisory Board has allocated the Chief Executive Officer responsibilities to Alejandro Plater (47) as proposed by the two majority shareholders América Móvil and Österreichische Bundes- und Industriebeteiligungen GmbH (ÖBIB). This appointment will be effective as of 1 August 2015.

The Telekom Austria Group (VSE: TKA, OTC US: TKAGY) announces that its Supervisory Board today has allocated the Chief Executive Officer responsibilities of Telekom Austria AG to Alejandro Plater (47) as proposed by the two majority shareholders América Móvil and Österreichische Bundes- und Industriebeteiligungen GmbH (ÖBIB). This appointment will be effective as of 1 August 2015. His contract period remains unchanged and runs until March 2018 with an option for a two year prolongation. As of August 2015 he Management Board of Telekom Austria Group will consist of the two members Alejandro Plater and Siegfried Mayrhofer.

Listed incumbent telco Telekom Austria, a unit of America Movil, posted EUR 171.4 million (USD 186.9 million) net profit in H1 2015, way better than a EUR 264.3 million loss in H1 2014, the company said.

Austria Telekom CEO Ametsreiter Saying Goodbye

Telekom Austria reported on Friday about a record-high half-year profit of EUR 171 million, exceeding analysts forecasts four times. EBITDA margin was at 34 percent, which was just as impressive as the rate of return, departing Telekom Austria CEO Hannes Ametsreiter told the press. The CEO said his farewell to the company on Friday, too. Once he leaves officially at the end of July, Ametsreiter is going to become head of Vodafone Germany as of 1 October 2015. He stressed in his speech, how difficult the competition was in Austria.

Consumer Federation Loses Against A1 Telekom Austria

The biggest telco service provider in Austria, A1 Telekom Austria, the subsidiary of Telekom Austria Group has recently introduced an index-related tariff raise. The Verein für Konsumenteninformation, a consumer association, which opposes this unilateral stipulation, has lost its dispute against Telekom Austria. A1 Telekom Austria, has scored a partial victory: Advocate General of the European Court of Justice, Cruz Villalon, opined that an index-related tariff raise of A1 was not a reason to terminate contracts.

Telekom Austria Fined in Bulgaria

The Bulgarian antitrust authorities KZK have imposed a fine equivalent to EUR 185,000 (USD 205,000) on M-tel, a subsidiary of Telekom Austria. The reason for this are offers from the year 2012. Mtel offered free devices for signing a mobile telephony subscription economic newspaper "Kapital” reported on Friday. From the point of view of the authorities, this was an unfair commercial practice.
