EUR 250 Million Order Brings Smart Meters to Styria

From the autumn of 2017 a major portion of Styrian households will have the so-called smart meters, intelligent electricity meters. Energie Steiermark together with 30 smaller energy companies organized a tender for a contract worth over EUR 250 million. Two producers from France France and Switzerland competed in the tender. The internal parts will come from ams in Unterpremstätten.

Battery Maker Banner Saw Its Revenue and Sales Volume Hike by 8 Percent

Upper Austria battery maker Banner from Leonding saw its revenue and sales volume hike by 8 percent each in the just ended FY 2015/16 (end of March). 4.1 million starter batteries have been sold, the revenue settled at EUR 258 million the company announced. Growth was achieved mostly thanks to the rising demand for enhanced flooded batteries for vehicles, which Banner has been supplying since 2015 for Volkswagen mid-sized cars. Over the past five years Banner has invested over EUR 40 million (USD 45.9 million) in its plant in Leonding. A new facility is to be build in Pasching, close to Leonding, for EUR 35 million, although the project is meeting with a lot of resistance among local communities.

Gerhard Roiss Collects EUR 6.35 Mln from former Employer OMV

Listed oil group OMV agreed to pay a total of EUR 6.35 million in various severance payments to its ex-CEO Gerhard Roiss whose contract was terminated early, according to the daily Kurier. Also, OMV is planning to transfer 160,847 treasury shares to management members and senior executives.

Italian Gas Infrastructure Company Snam Interested in Austrian Acquisitions

Italian state-run gas pipeline operator Snam, majority owner of Trans Austria Gasleitung (TAG), is mulling growth opportunities in Austria, general director Marco Alvera said, as reported by the media. Acquisitions are an option. According to an earlier statement of SNAM CEO Carlo Malacarne, the group could enter OMV unit Gas Connect.
