International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from steel producer Nucor to supply turn-key production lines for its new specialty cold rolling mill complex at the company's sheet steel mill in Hickman, Arkansas, USA. Start-up of the plant is scheduled for the second half of 2018.

ÖAMTC Rules VW Customers Have No Grounds to Sue

Following an inspection of an Audi A4 and VW Golf after software modifications in the wake of the VW emissions scandal, Austrian automobile club ÖAMTC determined that buyers of the cars had incurred no loss and hence suing the car maker would be pointless. In the USA VW has agreed to pay $14.7 billion to regulators and a half million American diesel car owners to settle its emissions-rigging scandal. This points out that U.S. laws are stricter in this respect than Austrian laws.

IZD Tower Taken Over by Property Fund CBRE

The 142-meter-tall office building IZD Tower (Internationales Zentrum Donaustadt) in Vienna has been taken over by the US property fund CBRE Global Investors on behalf of a Korean client. Reportedly, the property cost between EUR 250 million and 300 million. The seller is a German fund of the investment company Signa of the Tyrolean investor Rene Benko.

The Austrian Embassy in Washington D.C. reports that Minister of Justice Wolfgang Brandstetter headed an Austrian delegation to the U.S. from January 28 to February 3, 2016. His visit included meetings with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, members of Congress, Facebook officials, as well as a tour of the Los Angeles County Jail.

Black Diamond Equipment Relocates European Headquarters from Switzerland to Austria

Producer of climbing, skiing, mountain sports equipment Black Diamond will move its European headquarters from Basel to Innsbruck. Tim Bantle has been appointed Managing Director. Black Diamond is actively recruiting staff for the new office, with approximately 35 jobs across sales, marketing, customer service, operations and finance. The new office is expected to be operational in May 2016. Black Diamond Equipment was established in 1989 and has its headquarters in Salt Lake City in Utah.

Austria's Ambassador to the U.S. Hans Peter Manz Bids Farewell

Ambassador to the U.S. Dr. Hans Peter Manz will leave Washington and return to Vienna upon completion of his four year mission. Hans Peter Manz has served as Austria’s ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C., from December 2011 to December 2015. Before moving to the U.S., Dr. Manz was the Austrian Ambassador to Switzerland. During his diplomatic career, Dr. Manz served in a variety of positions, including inter alia, foreign policy advisor to the Chancellor of Austria. His overseas postings included Tehran, Bern and New York. Ambassador Manz will be succeeded by Ambassador Wolfgang Waldner.
