Novomatic Awaits Approval of Australian Rival for Planned Takeover

Gambling group Novomatic is yet awaiting the approval of Australian rival Ainsworth GM for the planned takeover of 52.5 percent stake. The meeting is scheduled for June 3. At least 50 percent of minority shareholders of Ainsworth need to agree to the proposed deal assuming the price AUD 2.75 per share and a total value of AUD 500 million (EUR 323 million). The management previously expressed its support for the takeover, but analysts and minority shareholders were critical.

Czechs Jirí Šmejc and Karel Komárek Want to Take Control of Casinos Austria

The Czech consortium Austrian Gaming Holding (AGH) of billionaires Jirí Šmejc and Karel Komárek, headquartered in Prague may soon be new majority owner of Casinos Austria AG. According to the Federal Competition Authority (BWB), Austrian Gaming Holding intends to increase one hand its stake in Medial to 88.89 percent and on the other hand to acquire 16.79 percent of Casinos Austria AG shares. Through these acquisitions, AGH will hold directly or indirectly 50.82 percent of the shares and thus acquire sole control of the CASAG.

Finance Ministry Files Casino Licence Revision with Higher Administrative Court

The Finance Ministry insists that the three Casino licences in Vienna and Lower Austria habe been correctly awarded to Novomatic and a Swiss-German group. That is why the ministry is going to appeal against a decision of the Federal Administrative Court (BVwG) issued in July which ordered the revocation of the licences. The ministry has filed for a revision with the Higher Administrative Court.

“The Third Man” - Brand New Release of the Greatest Film of all Time

Silver screen classic “The Third Man” was shot in Vienna in 1948. It is considered to be the greatest film of all time. A brand new release of “The Third Man” will be presented in selected cinemas to audiences fully restored in 4k resolution from 26 June. This year also marks the 100th birthday of Orson Welles, who played Harry Lime.

Vienna Prater Amusement Park Celebrates its 250th Anniversary

On the 7th of April 2016 the Vienna Prater amusement park (Wiener Prater) will be celebrating its 250th anniversary, so it has already started to undergo a major revamp. According to its new president, Stefan Sittler-Koidl, the winds of change are literally blowing through this traditional leisure park. The highlight of the season will be the commissioning of the world's most advanced wind tunnel, in which free-fall can be simulated.

Vienna Museum: "The Ring - The Boulevard’s Early Years, 1857–1865"

The exhibition in the Vienna Museum spans the period from the beginning of planning to the construction of the Ringstrasse in 1857 and its festive opening on 1 May 1865. Plans, designs, models and photographs are put on display for the first time. They tell of architects, painters, and sculptors searching for the style of their age. They illuminate the juxtaposition of demolition and new construction.

Analysis: The Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna

The Eurovision Song Contest 2015 has been the 60th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest musical event. The contest took place in Vienna and followed Conchita Wurst's victory in the 2014 edition with her song "Rise Like a Phoenix". The song "Heroes" by Måns Zelmerlöw took the winning spot in the 60th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with 365 points. The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest will therefore be held in Sweden.
