Vienna Albertina Celebrates its 20th Anniversary
In 2023, the Albertina museum celebrates its reopening 20 years ago, the renovation of the state rooms and the expansion of the museum from 2,000 to over 28,000 square meters today. With between 700,000 and one million tickets sold a year, the Albertina has been repositioned into a new museum rich in tradition.

Modigliani in Vienna on the 100th Anniversary of his Death

American Photography at the Albertina: Trevor Traina Back in Vienna
Former U.S. Ambassador to Austria Trevor Traina was at the opening of the new exhibition "American Photography" at the Albertina Museum in Vienna. Mr. Traina holds one of the largest private collections of photographs in the world, and he loaned some of these pieces to the Albertina for the exhibition. "American Photography" includes photographs from 1945 to the present and focuses on everyday motifs that had previously been considered unworthy of portrayal. The Collection Hahnloser Can Now Be Visited in the Albertina
Until November 15 it is now possible to see the masterpieces from "Van Gogh, Cézanne, Matisse. Die Sammlung Hahnloser" in the Albertina. The exhibition can be visited daily and on Wednesday as well as on Friday even until 9pm.

Van Gogh, Cézanne, Matisse, Hodler at the Albertina
The Albertina Museum in Vienna dedicates its spring exhibition 2020 to the "Hahnloser Collection", one of the most important Private collections of French modernism. The collection was created between 1905 and 1936 and includes works by Pierre Bonnard, Ferdinand Hodler, Henri Matisse, Cézanne, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh and Félix Vallotton.

Comeback of Albrecht Dürer's Young Hare
The Albertina Vienna will present the most comprehensive exhibition of the work of Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) in decades, starting next week. The exhibition presents over 100 drawings, a dozen paintings, personal notes and other rare documents of the Renaissance genius, including the Young Hare, the Praying Hands and the Great Piece of Turf.

Billionaire Heidi Horten to Become Museum Founder
The billionaire, patron and art collector Heidi Goëss-Horten has acquired a palace for the permanent presentation of her Heidi Horten Collection in downtown Vienna, right next to the State Opera and Albertina. Agnes Husslein-Arco is intended as director. The museum in the Hanuschhof is scheduled to open in early 2022.

Hermann Nitsch - Rooms Made of Colour
On the occasion of the 80th birthday of the Austrian painter and action artist Hermann Nitsch, his works can be seen and experienced in the Albertina as monumental colour spaces and rubble installations. The exhibition "NITSCH. Räume aus Farbe" shows Nitsch's pictures for the first time as painting for themselves: it bursts the dimensions of the panel painting, conquers the wall across the entire surface and intervenes in the room as a comprehensive installation.

Rubens to Makart - Liechtenstein - The Princely Collections
This year marks the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The Albertina celebrates this anniversary with a large exhibition entitled "Rubens bis Makart. Die Fürstlichen Sammlungen Liechtenstein". Works such as Peter Paul Rubens' Venus, the life-size bronze sculpture of Christ in Misery by Adrian de Fries or the recently acquired bronze bust of Emperor Marc Aurel are just as much the focus of the show as are the selected art treasures of the world-famous Biedermeier collection.

Claude Monet: The French “Master of Light” at the Albertina
Claude Monet (1840–1926) stands like no other painter for the impressionist style, and as the French “Master of Light”, he was also a central pioneer of 20th-century painting. The Albertina is devoting a large monographic exhibition to Claude Monet’s treatment of color, which has seen little examination to date, as well as to the painter’s passionate fascination with the world of plants and water in the garden of his country home in Giverny.

Worlds of Romanticism at the Albertina
Romanticism was an attitude and an art genre that has lost of none of its fascination to this day. The Albertina is therefore showing important works from this time. Around 170 works from the Albertina's own collection as well as from the Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts and international loan pieces can be seen. The paintings of famous artists such as Caspar David Friedrich, Francisco de Goya, Moritz von Schwind, Joseph von Führich and Julius Schnorr give an excellent overview of this outstanding art epoch.
