Austrian economists expect that the new government will draft another austerity package. Otherwise the fiscal objectives will not be achieved.

At the moment, the two biggest parties SPÖ and ÖVP are still trying to form a government. The old government, which was composed of the same parties, planned to lower the budget deficits gradually until 2017. In 2018, Austria should achieve a zero deficit, the government announced in late 2011.
