Agrana Expands in Russia
The Austrian fruit and starch company invests € 27m in a factory site in Russia.
Within the coming years, Agrana plans to expand its factory in Serpuchow, Russia. The annual capacity should rise from 38,000 tons for fruit treatment to 62,000 tons. The investment volume totals €27m, the executive Herbert Hlawati explains.
The factory, which was built in 2004, is located 100km in the south of Moscow. In 2005, Agrana acquired the site. Technical facilities were provided by the Austrian construction company SMB, which also intends to apply for the provision of new machines. Hlawati announced that “Austrian companies will be awarded for the construction”.
According to Hlawati, Agrana supplies all Russian producers of dairy products. The market share of Agrana in Russia amounts to 48%, sales totaled € 55m in 2011. Hlawati sees still “enormous growth potential” in Russia, as consumers tend to prefer natural products.
Agrana´s group revenues reached € 2.0bn last year, about the half is based on fruit treatment.
